Respite Care From Just 2 Days

Sometimes you need a break. Sometimes your loved one needs extra care for a few days. And sometimes you just want the peace of mind that comes from knowing they're being properly looked after whilst you're away.

We're proud to offer respite care from just 2 days – something no other care home in the area provides. Whether it's a weekend away, a short holiday, or simply the reassurance that your loved one is getting home-cooked meals and proper care while you recharge, our doors are open for stays as brief or as long as you need.

Think of it as a cruise that doesn't move – all the comfort, care, activities, and social life, but on dry land and just when you need it most.

Why 2-Day Respite Care Can Help

Respite care isn't just about giving carers and loved ones a break – it's about improving life for everyone involved, most importantly the person for whom care is needed.

Sensory activities for dementia patients in a care home include sensory stimulation like this beach set up at Heartland Manor care home.

Perfect for weekend breaks

Planning a weekend away but worried about leaving your loved one alone? Our 2-day minimum means you can book a short city break, visit family, or simply have a proper rest knowing they're being looked after by professionals. No more cancelled plans or anxious holidays.

Regular intervals for better care

Many families use our short respite stays regularly – perhaps one weekend a month – to ensure their loved one gets things they might struggle with at home. Proper home-cooked meals served at regular times, assistance with bathing and personal care (including proper baths or showers), social interaction with others, and professional oversight of medications.

Companionship and stimulation

Isolation can be one of the biggest challenges for elderly people living at home. Even a 2-day stay gives residents the chance to enjoy conversations over meals, join in activities, and experience the buzz of community life. Many families find their loved one comes home brighter and more engaged.

A gentle introduction to residential care

If you're considering longer-term care options, short respite stays are an ideal way to help your loved one get familiar with the environment and routines without any pressure. They can experience our care, meet our team, and see what life might be like – making any future transition much easier for everyone.

What Respite Care Includes

Complete care assessment

Before any stay, our care team conducts a thorough assessment to understand your loved one's needs, preferences, and routines. We want their short stay to feel as comfortable and familiar as possible.

24/7 professional care

Whether it's a 2-day weekend or a longer stay, residents have access to our full care team around the clock. This includes help with personal care, medication management, mobility support, and any other assistance they need.

Digital care planning

We create a detailed care plan that captures everything from dietary requirements and medication schedules to personal preferences and comfort routines. This ensures consistent, personalised care throughout their stay.

Full access to activities and amenities

Respite residents aren't just visitors – they're members of our community with full access to everything we offer. This includes our activities programme, coffee shops, gardens, and social areas.

A Typical Respite Stay

Arrival day

We make settling in as stress-free as possible. Our team welcomes residents personally, helps them get familiar with their room and the layout, and introduces them to other residents and key staff members. There's no rushing – we take as much time as needed for them to feel comfortable.

Daily routine

Respite residents follow the same caring routine as our permanent residents. This includes assistance with morning routines, enjoyable meals in our dining rooms, participation in activities they find interesting, and gentle support throughout the day. They're encouraged to maintain their own routines where possible – if they usually have an afternoon nap or prefer tea at 4pm, that's exactly what happens.

Activity choices

Our lifestyle managers ensure respite residents are included in our full programme of activities. Whether it's joining the scrabble tournament, participating in arts and crafts, enjoying the gardening club, or simply relaxing with a book in the lounge, there are plenty of options to choose from.

Social opportunities

Mealtimes become social occasions, and our coffee shops provide perfect spaces for residents to chat with others or enjoy visits from family. Many residents form quick friendships during even short stays.

Departure day

We make leaving as smooth as arriving. Our team ensures residents have everything they brought with them, provides a summary of their stay (including any observations about their wellbeing), and schedules their next visit if desired.

Types of Respite Care We Offer

Every family's situation is different, which is why we offer flexible respite arrangements to match your specific needs.

Emergency respite
Sometimes life throws unexpected challenges your way. If you suddenly need to be away or require urgent respite support, we can often accommodate same-day or next-day admissions, subject to availability.

Planned respite
For holidays, family visits, or regular breaks, we encourage booking in advance. This ensures we can prepare properly and guarantee availability for your preferred dates.

Regular respite programme
Many families establish a pattern – perhaps one weekend a month or a week every few months. This creates continuity for both the carer and their loved one, and helps our team build stronger relationships with regular respite residents.

Post-hospital respite
After a hospital stay, some people need extra support while they recover but aren't quite ready to go straight home. Our respite care provides that bridge, offering professional care and rehabilitation support in a comfortable, non-medical environment.

Trial stays
If you're considering longer-term residential care, respite stays offer the perfect opportunity to experience our homes without commitment. Residents can get familiar with our routines, meet our team, and decide if we might be the right fit for the future.

Supporting Family Carers

Understanding carer fatigue
Caring for a loved one is rewarding but exhausting. The constant responsibility, interrupted sleep, and emotional demands can take their toll. Respite care isn't just about looking after your loved one – it's about giving you permission to rest, recharge, and remember who you are beyond being a carer.

Guilt-free breaks
Many family carers feel guilty about taking time away. We understand this completely and work hard to ensure you feel confident and comfortable about the care your loved one is receiving. Regular updates, photos, and detailed feedback help you relax and enjoy your break.

Peace of mind
Knowing your loved one is safe, well-fed, socially engaged, and properly cared for means you can truly switch off during your time away. No more anxious phone calls or shortened trips due to worry.

Maintaining caring relationships
Taking regular breaks actually helps you be a better carer in the long run. You return refreshed, patient, and better able to provide the emotional support your loved one needs.

Getting Started With Respite Care

Initial conversation
We start with a friendly chat about your needs, your loved one's requirements, and how respite care might help your family. There's no pressure – just honest discussion about whether we're the right fit.

Assessment visit
For first-time respite residents, we usually arrange a brief visit to meet the team, see the facilities, and complete the care assessment. This can often be combined with staying for lunch to get a real feel for the atmosphere.

Trial stay
Many families start with a short 2-day stay to see how everyone feels about the arrangement. If it goes well, future bookings become much easier to arrange.

Building relationships
Our team works hard to build rapport quickly with respite residents. Even in short stays, we want everyone to feel welcomed, valued, and genuinely cared for.
