Caring for an Elderly Loved One? Take a Christmas Break with Respite Care
Caring for a loved one is one of the most meaningful roles a person can take on, but it is equally important to acknowledge that everyone needs a break. Christmas often brings added responsibilities, family commitments, and emotional strain, making it an ideal time to accept a little extra support.
At Everwood Care, we provide respite care for as little as two-days, giving carers time to rest, recharge, and enjoy the season.
A Rest for Carers, a Home-from-Home for Resident Guests
Respite care at Christmas isn’t just a chance for family carers to pause, recharge, and focus on their own wellbeing, it’s also a wonderful opportunity for elderly loved ones to enjoy company, connection, and the festive spirit in a warm community setting.
Friendly staff, a homely atmosphere, and opportunities for shared meals and light festive activities create a sense of belonging. It’s the perfect chance to make new memories, meet new faces, and enjoy the comfort of a supportive community.
Enjoy Being ‘Just Family’ Again
When you’re caring for an elderly loved one, it can be hard to switch off from ‘carer mode,’ even during the holidays. A respite stay gives families the rare chance to simply be together as mother and daughter, niece and auntie, husband and wife, son and father, etc., without the pressure of tasks, routines, and constant vigilance. Instead of worrying about medication, meals, mobility, or safety, you can focus on enjoying quality time, having warm conversations, and making festive memories. For many families, respite care brings back the emotional closeness that daily caring duties can unintentionally overshadow. It allows everyone to reconnect, relax, and truly enjoy the spirit of Christmas together.
A respite stay doesn’t mean you have to be completely away. At Heartland Manor and Little Haven, families and friends of residents are welcome to visit their loved one while they’re with us, even if it’s for two days. We just ask that you give us a heads-up so we can accommodate.
Christmas Time at Everwood Care Homes
We have an array of activities on over Christmas, which everyone is welcome to join in with. One of the highlights of our festive period is our delicious menu!
Guests can enjoy a choice of three delightful starters:
- Butternut & Parsnip Soup with Garlic Croutons, paired with a warm crusty roll
- Prawn & Avocado Salad, served with brown bread and butter
- Pâté & Melba Toast, accompanied by red onion relish and a crisp side salad
For the main course, the star of the show is, of course, the Traditional Roast Turkey, complete with all the trimmings: Roast potatoes, honey-glazed carrots, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower cheese, chipolata and bacon, sage and onion stuffing, cranberry sauce, and gravy. A truly classic Christmas feast.
For those who prefer something different, there are two equally delightful alternatives:
- Roasted Salmon Fillet on a bed of cherry tomatoes and courgettes, finished with a herb wine and cream sauce
- Vegetable Wellington with fondant potato and asparagus tips
And to finish, guests can indulge in one of three tempting desserts:
- Very Sherry Trifle, a nostalgic layering of sponge, fruit, custard, and jelly
- Traditional Homemade Christmas Pudding, served warm with brandy sauce
- Cheese Board Selection featuring Stilton, Cheddar, and Brie with crackers, dates, and nuts
It’s a menu made to bring people together, spark conversation, and make Christmas Day feel truly special.
A Small Stay That Makes a Big Difference
Our two-day Christmas respite offering is more than a practical solution; it’s an opportunity for resident guests to enjoy celebration, companionship, and exceptional care. For carers, it means time to breathe, relax, and reconnect with their own festive traditions knowing that their loved one is in good hands.
Whether you need support over the holidays, or you’re looking to ensure a friend, neighbour, or family member isn’t alone this Christmas, we offer a warm welcome and a joyful festive experience.
If you’re considering respite care this season, now is the perfect time to arrange a stay and make Christmas 2025 memorable for all the right reasons.
